Side Effects

• Beta Carotene: Generally safe but can cause hypercarotenosis (yellowish skin) with excessive intake.
• Vitamin C: Safe in normal doses; high doses may cause gastrointestinal upset and kidney stones.
• Vitamin E: Safe in normal doses; high doses (>800 mg) may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and reduced bacterial infection resistance.

Mode of Action:

Beta Carotene:

Drug Interactions

• Beta Carotene: Decreased absorption with cholestyramine, colestipol, and neomycin.
• Vitamin C: Reduced levels with oral contraceptives, tetracycline, and aspirin.
• Vitamin E: Enhances anticoagulant effects of anticoagulant drugs and can impair absorption of vitamins A and K at high doses.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any ingredients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No teratogenic effects are known for beta carotene, vitamin C, or vitamin E. Caution is advised during pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

• Heavy Smokers & Alcoholics: Caution with beta carotene as it may cause harm.
• Hyperoxaluria: Caution with vitamin C.
• Anticoagulant Therapy: Vitamin E may enhance the effects of anticoagulants.
