Pharmacology
Biotin, also known as vitamin H, is an essential vitamin. It is involved in vital physiological processes such as fatty acid synthesis, amino acid catabolism, and gluconeogenesis. It is required for the enzymatic carboxylation of pyruvate and acetyl-CoA. Biotin influences epidermal cell growth and differentiation, making it essential for the formation and renewal of skin, hair, and nails. It functions as a coenzyme of mitochondrial carboxylase in the hair root and improves keratin structure. Biotin deficiency can result in hair loss as well as a variety of systemic symptoms such as dermatitis and aciduria. Biotin is a popular nutritional supplement
Dosage & Administration
The dosage of biotin varies depending on the disease state and age group.
Adults:
Usually 1-3 tablets per day or as directed by a doctor.

There is evidence that anticonvulsants reduce the plasma levels of biotin. The use of antibiotics can reduce the contribution of biotin to the body produced by the colonic microbiota. Eating too much raw protein will interfere with the absorption of biotin.
Contraindications
In individuals who have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components, this medication is not recommended.
Side Effects
It is well tolerated at the recommended dose. In people who received 200 mg orally or 20 mg intravenously daily, no biotin toxicity was reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Sufficient clinical data is not available to use in pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Biotin is LIKELY SAFE when used in recommended amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Children: Biotin is LIKELY SAFE when taken by mouth and appropriately.
