✔️ Side Effects of Tamona 10mg Tablet
  • Common: Hot flushes, vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, pruritus vulvae, tumor flare, gastrointestinal intolerance, headache, light-headedness, fluid retention, and alopecia.
  • Severe: Skin rashes (including erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and bullous pemphigoid), hypersensitivity reactions (including angioedema), hypercalcemia in patients with bony metastases, falls in platelet count, visual disturbances (including corneal changes, retinopathy, and cataracts), uterine fibroids, endometrial changes, cystic ovarian swellings, leucopenia, neutropenia, thromboembolic events (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism), liver abnormalities (fatty liver, cholestasis, hepatitis), and elevated serum triglyceride levels (sometimes with pancreatitis).
✔️ Quick Suggestions:
  • Tamona reduces the risk of cancer coming back and of getting cancer in the other breast.
  • Use a reliable barrier contraceptive method (such as condoms) to prevent pregnancy while you are taking this medicine and for 2 months after you stop taking it.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
  • Inform your doctor if your periods become irregular, especially if associated with heavier bleeding.
  • Do not stop taking the medicine without talking to your doctor first.
✔️ Indications:
✔️ Pharmacology

Tamona contains tamoxifen, a non-steroidal, triphenylene-based drug with a complex spectrum of estrogen antagonists and agonist effects in different tissues. In breast cancer patients, tamoxifen primarily acts as an anti-estrogen, preventing estrogen from binding to estrogen receptors. Additionally, tamoxifen helps maintain bone mineral density in post-menopausal women.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Tamona 10mg Tablet
  • Breast Cancer: 20 mg daily.
  • Anovulatory Infertility: 20 mg daily on days 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the menstrual cycle. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 40 mg, then 80 mg for subsequent courses. If cycles are irregular, start the initial course on any day, with subsequent courses 45 days later or on day 2 of the cycle if menstruation occurs.
✔️ Interaction
  • Drug-Drug Interaction: When used with coumarin-type anticoagulants, a significant increase in anticoagulant effect may occur, necessitating careful monitoring. Co-administration with cytotoxic agents increases the risk of thromboembolic events.
✔️ Contraindications
  • Tamona should not be administered during pregnancy.
  • Patients with hypersensitivity to tamoxifen or any of its ingredients.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
  • Pregnancy: Tamona should not be administered during pregnancy due to reports of spontaneous abortions, birth defects, and fetal deaths. Women should avoid becoming pregnant while taking tamoxifen and use barrier or other non-hormonal contraceptive methods if sexually active. Premenopausal patients should be carefully examined before treatment to exclude pregnancy.
  • Lactation: It is not known if tamoxifen is excreted in human milk. Therefore, it is not recommended during lactation. The decision to discontinue tamoxifen should consider the importance of the drug to the lactating mother.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
  • Menstruation may be suppressed in premenopausal women receiving tamoxifen for breast cancer.
  • An increased incidence of endometrial cancer has been reported with tamoxifen treatment. Patients reporting abnormal gynecological symptoms, especially vaginal bleeding, should be promptly investigated.
  • Many second primary tumors have been reported in clinical trials following tamoxifen treatment for breast cancer. The clinical significance of these observations remains unclear.
✔️ Storage:
