✔️ Pharmacology

Polyethylene Glycol 3350 acts as a laxative by its osmotic effect in the gut, increasing stool volume and promoting colon motility through neuromuscular pathways. When mixed with electrolytes, it exchanges with serum electrolytes across the intestinal barrier and is eliminated in fecal water, maintaining a balanced level of sodium, potassium, and water in the body.

Sodium chloride is an essential extracellular cation that helps manage electrolyte and fluid balance, osmotic pressure, and water distribution. It is used for hydration, treating metabolic acidosis, priming hemodialysis solutions, and managing hyperosmolar diabetes. It also serves as a diluent for compatible medicinal additives in infusions.

Sodium bicarbonate, when dissociated, produces bicarbonate ions, which neutralize hydrogen ions in the blood and urine, and carbon dioxide, which can neutralize stomach acid.

Potassium chloride is a vital intracellular cation that plays a crucial role in transmitting nerve impulses in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscle. It also contributes to muscle contraction in the heart and skeletal muscles, maintains proper renal function, acid-base balance, and glucose metabolism, and regulates gastric secretion.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Movilax Oral Powder

• For adults and children aged 12 years and above, Movilax Oral Powder for Suspension can be used for constipation and fecal impaction with the following recommended doses:
• Constipation: The initial dose is 1 sachet daily. If necessary, this can be increased to 2-3 sachets daily.
• Fecal Impaction: In cases of fecal impaction, the recommended dose is 8 sachets daily, to be consumed within 6 hours. The treatment for fecal impaction usually does not exceed 3 days.
• Patients with renal insufficiency do not require any dosage adjustments for the treatment of either constipation or fecal impaction.
• To prepare the suspension, each sachet should be dissolved in 125 ml of water. For fecal impaction treatment, all 8 sachets may be dissolved in 1 liter of water. The solution should be refrigerated, and any unused solution should be discarded within 6 hours.

There is a possibility that the absorption of other medicinal products could be transiently reduced during use with Movilax. There have been isolated reports of decreased efficacy with some concomitantly administered medicinal products, e.g. anti-epileptics.

Patients with known hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients, intestinal perforation or obstruction, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis should avoid Polyethylene Glycol 3350 and electrolytes.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

there is limited evidence regarding the safety of Polyethylene Glycol 3350 (PEG 3350) use during pregnancy or lactation. As with any medication or medical treatment, it should only be used during pregnancy or lactation if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks, and under the guidance and supervision of a healthcare professional.

Since there is no substantial data on the elimination of PEG 3350 in human breast milk, caution should be exercised before using it while breastfeeding, and it should only be used if deemed necessary and recommended by a healthcare professional.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• If you are taking any other medications, including herbal or nutritional supplements, you should notify your doctor to avoid any interactions because certain medicines might raise the risk of dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.
• People with electrolyte abnormalities, arrhythmias, seizures, renal impairment, GI obstruction or perforation, and other pre-existing medical conditions should seek medical advice.
• If you experience any unusual symptoms whilst using this medication, please discontinue the use and consult your doctor immediately.
• Inform your doctor in advance if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
• Limit or avoid alcohol intake while using this medicine to minimize interactions and the occurrence of side effects.
• For the treatment of fecal impaction in patients with impaired cardiovascular function, the dose should be divided so that no more than two sachets are given in any one hour.
• Movilax should be stopped immediately if patients experience any symptoms indicating fluid/electrolyte changes (edema, shortness of breath, increased fatigue, dehydration, heart failure), and any abnormalities should be handled properly. All laxatives should not be used for lengthy periods of time because they can cause dependency.
