Indications of Vasopril 5 Tablet
Pharmacology of Vasopril 5 Tablet
Enalapril inhibits Angiotensin Converting Enzyme following hydrolysis to enalaprilat (ACE). The conversion of angiotensin I to the vasoconstrictor chemical angiotensin II is catalyzed by ACE, a peptidyl dipeptidase. Angiotensin II also increases adrenal cortex aldosterone secretion. Enalapril's favorable benefits in hypertension and heart failure appear to be largely due to its inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone pathway.
Dosage & Administration of Vasopril 5 Tablet
Hypertension: Initially 5 mg once daily if used alone or 2.5 mg daily if used in addition to a diuretic, in elderly patients or in patients with renal impairment. The usual maintenance dose is 10-20 mg once daily. However, in severe hypertension, it may be increased to a maximum of 40 mg once daily.
Heart failure (adjunct) and asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction: Initially 2.5 mg under close medical supervision. The usual maintenance dose is 20 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses
Interaction of Vasopril 5 Tablet
Combining b blockers, Methyldopa, calcium antagonists, and diuretics with other antihypertensive drugs may improve hypertension effectiveness. Adrenergic blockers should only be used in conjunction with Enalapril under strict supervision. Concomitant Propranolol may decrease Enalapril bioavailability, however, this does not appear to be clinically significant. Concurrent Lithium treatment may result in a rise in serum Lithium concentration.
Contraindications
Aortic stenosis or blockage of the outflow tract. Renovascular disease is a condition that affects the kidneys. HTN with a high level of resistance. Generalized atherosclerosis or peripheral vascular disease.
Side Effects of Vasopril 5 Tablet

Renal impairment, renal failure, and oliguria have been described less often. Rarely, angioedema, hyperkalemia, and hyponatremia have been observed.
