How does Sleepwel 2mg Tablet work?

It works by slowing the activity of the nerve cells in the brain and helps fall asleep.

• Your doctor has prescribed Eszopiclone to help you fall asleep faster and sleep for longer.
• It is best taken without food as a high-fat meal can reduce its absorption and effect.
• Take it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime and only when you have time to sleep for at least 7 hours.
• It makes you feel dizzy the next morning. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
• It does not affect total sleep time. However,  it reduces sleep onset time and frequent awakening at night.
• Never share your medication with any other person who also has a sleep problem.
• Inform your doctor if your sleep doesn’t improve after 7 to 10 days of treatment.
• Stop taking medication and inform your doctor If you experience sleep driving or memory loss.
• Inform your doctor if you notice behavioral changes, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Indication of Sleepwel 2mg Tablet

• Sleepwel is indicated for the treatment of insomnia, including difficulty falling asleep and maintaining sleep throughout the night.
• It is the first sedative approved for long-term use.

Pharmacology

Eszopiclone may interact with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor complexes at binding domains located close to or allosterically coupled to benzodiazepine receptors.

Dosage & Administration of Sleepwel 2mg Tablet:

• The usual dose to improve or maintain sleep in most adults is 2 or 3 mg.
• Persons over the age of 65 years are usually treated with 1 or 2 mg.
• Eszopiclone should be taken immediately before going to bed since the onset of sedation may occur as rapidly as 10 minutes.
• It should be taken only by individuals who intend to sleep for at least 8 hours since its effects may last up to six hours.

Interaction

Alcohol and drugs with sedating effects should not be used with Sleepwel as their combined effects may cause excessive sedation.

Contraindications

• Depression
• Severe Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD)
• Severe liver disease
• Weakened patients
• Having thoughts of suicide

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Category C. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
• Nursing Mothers: It is not known whether the drug is excreted in breast milk. As many drugs are excreted in breast milk, caution should be exercised when Eszopiclone is administered to a nursing mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Sleepwel, like all sedatives, should be taken immediately before bedtime to avoid short-term memory impairment, hallucinations, impaired coordination, dizziness, and lightheadedness.
