Prokind contains Propantheline Bromide, which works via two mechanisms:
This dual action reduces GI motility, decreases gastric acid secretion, and lowers pharyngeal, tracheal, and bronchial secretions. It also reduces saliva, sweat, and pancreatic juice production.
Symptoms range from intensified side effects (nausea, vomiting) to CNS changes (restlessness, psychosis), circulatory problems (flushing, low BP, circulatory collapse), respiratory failure, and paralysis.
Dose-related and usually reversible after stopping treatment. Common: dry mouth, dry skin, enlarged pupils. Others: urinary retention, nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, nervousness, mental confusion.
Adults: 75 mg daily, taken as 15 mg three times daily (30 min before meals) plus 30 mg (two tablets) at bedtime. Adjust according to patient response; maximum dose: 120 mg/day.
Children: Safety and effectiveness not established.
Use only as directed by a registered physician.
Antacids or absorbent antidiarrheals may reduce absorption—take Prokind 2–3 hours apart from these.
May alter the absorption of other drugs taken together.
Notable interactions with digoxin, haloperidol, corticosteroids, ketoconazole, levodopa, opioid analgesics, phenothiazines, and urinary alkalizers.
Use carefully in elderly patients or those with autonomic neuropathy, liver/kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, arrhythmias, or hypertension, as anticholinergics may worsen these conditions.
Store below 30 °C, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
