Newbain 20mg/2ml Injection works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain.

✔️ Benefits of Newbain 20mg/2ml Injection

• Nalbuphine is an analgesic that is used as a painkiller for short-term management of severe pain.
• Nalbuphine blocks pain signals, so the brain doesn't perceive the severity of pain, hence increasing the body's threshold for pain.
• Nalbuphine may also be used as an adjunct to balanced anesthesia for pre/post-operative analgesia, during labor and delivery.

Generally well-tolerated but may include:

• Common: Sedation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sweating, dry mouth.
• Rare: Headache, respiratory depression, asthma, dyspnea.

✔️ Indication of Newbain 20mg/2ml Injection

Newbain is an opioid pain medicine used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It is also used with other medications to relieve pain before, during, or after surgery and other medical procedures. 

✔️ Pharmacology

• Mechanism of Action:
  • Nalbuphine is a synthetic potent analgesic, equivalent in potency to morphine.
  • Acts as a kappa agonist and a partial mu antagonist.
• Onset of Action:
  • Intravenous: 2-3 minutes.
  • Subcutaneous/Intramuscular: <15 minutes.
• Duration: 3 to 6 hours.
• Half-life: Approximately 5 hours.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Newbain 20mg/2ml Injection

Moderate to Severe Pain:

• Adults: 10–20 mg IV/IM for a 70 kg individual, repeat every 3–6 hours as needed.
• Children: 0.3 mg/kg IV/IM, repeated as necessary.

Preoperative Anesthesia:

• 0.1–0.2 mg/kg IV/IM.

Obstetrical Analgesia (Labor & Delivery):

• 0.3–1 mg/kg IV over 10–15 minutes, with maintenance doses of 0.25–0.5 mg/kg as required.

Intraoperative Analgesia:

• 0.25–0.5 mg/kg IV at 30-minute intervals.

Myocardial Infarction:

• 10–20 mg IV slowly, repeated after 30 minutes if necessary.

Children (18 months to 15 years):

• 0.2 mg/kg IV/IM, maintenance doses every 4–6 hours as required.

✔️ Interaction

• Additive CNS Effects: When combined with:
  • Narcotic analgesics.
  • General anesthesia.
  • CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers).

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Nalbuphine Hydrochloride.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category B: Use only if needed.
• Minimal excretion in breast milk, with negligible effects.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in:
  • Impaired respiratory, renal, or hepatic function.
  • Post myocardial infarction.
  • Biliary tract surgeries.
• Can cross the placenta and is excreted in small amounts in breast milk.

• Store below 30°C, protected from light.
• Keep out of reach of children.
