How does Diatrol MR 30 Tablet work?

Diatrol MR 30 Tablet works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas. It stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas and decreases blood sugar levels.

Side Effects of Diatrol MR 30 Tablet

• Common: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) symptoms include sweating, dizziness, and shivering. Severe cases require immediate medical attention.
• Liver Disorders: Rare cases of liver dysfunction, indicated by yellow skin and eyes, require immediate medical attention.
• Skin Disorders: Rash, redness, itching, hives, and severe allergic reactions like angioedema may occur.
• Blood Disorders: Rare reductions in blood cell counts causing paleness, prolonged bleeding, bruising, sore throat, and fever.
• Digestive Disorders: Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, and constipation.
• Eye Disorders: Temporary vision changes due to blood sugar level fluctuations.
• Severe Reactions: In rare cases, severe changes in blood cells, blood sodium reduction, or life-threatening liver failure may occur.

Quick Suggestions:

• Take it shortly before or with the first main meal.
• Avoid skipping meals.
• Regular liver function monitoring may be required.

Dosage & Administration of Modified-Release Tablets:

• Initial Dose: 30 mg once daily.
• Dose Adjustment: May increase in increments of 30 mg up to a maximum of 120 mg daily.
• Interval for Dose Increase: At least 1 month between dose adjustments.
• For Non-respondent Patients: The dose may be increased after 2 weeks.

Pharmacology

Gliclazide works by stimulating insulin secretion from the pancreas, reducing glucose production by the liver, and increasing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. It also decreases microthrombosis by partially inhibiting platelet aggregation and adhesion and by increasing tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) activity.

Dosage & Administration of Immediate Release Tablets:

• Initial Dose: 40-80 mg daily.
• Dose Adjustment: Gradually increase up to 320 mg daily if necessary.
• Administration: Doses exceeding 160 mg daily should be given in two divided doses.

How to take

• Take Diatrol MR 30 in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.

  • Central nervous system treatments (e.g., chlorpromazine)
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., corticosteroids)
  • Asthma or labor medications (e.g., intravenous salbutamol)
  • Medicines for breast disorders or heavy menstrual bleeding (e.g., danazol)
  • St John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) preparations
• Blood Glucose Disturbances: Fluoroquinolone antibiotics may cause blood sugar disturbances when taken with Gliclazide, especially in elderly patients.
• Increased Anticoagulant Effect: Gliclazide may increase the effects of blood-thinning medicines like warfarin.
• Consultation Required: Always consult your doctor before starting any new medication.

Food, Drink, and Alcohol:

• Food: Gliclazide can be taken with food and non-alcoholic drinks.
• Alcohol: Avoid alcohol as it can unpredictably alter blood sugar control.

Driving and Using Machines:

• Blood sugar fluctuations can impair concentration and reaction times, which may affect driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid driving if you frequently experience low blood sugar or lack warning signs of low blood sugar.

Contraindications

• Do not take Gliclazide if you:
  • Are allergic to it or similar medicines (sulfonylureas or hypoglycaemic sulfonamides)
  • Have type 1 diabetes
  • Have diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre-coma, or coma
  • Have severe kidney or liver disease
  • Are taking antifungal medications
  • Are breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings
