Lysine is crucial for collagen formation, and vital for bone and connective tissue, including skin, tendons, and cartilage. Additionally, it plays a role in growth and the production of carnitine, a nutrient that converts fatty acids into energy and helps reduce cholesterol levels. It's indicated for preventing infection in cuts, abrasions, surgical incisions, burns, chronic wounds, and infected traumatic lesions. Lysine also inhibits the replication of arginine-rich herpes viruses

The gel or ointment can be used as often as needed, preferably at intervals of 24, 48, or 72 hours. To use, clean the affected areas with normal saline and/or surgically if necessary until the wound bed appears red with a few bleeding points. Apply the gel liberally and consider covering the areas with a moist dressing and/or bandage.

There is a moderate interaction with calcium supplements. Lysine can increase the body's absorption of calcium. Taking calcium and lysine together can lead to increased calcium levels in the body. Avoid consuming large amounts of calcium and lysine simultaneously.
