Allergy:

Common types of allergies include drug allergy, food allergy, contact dermatitis, latex allergy, allergic asthma, seasonal allergies, animal allergies, and anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction). Pharmacology

Pheniramine, the active ingredient in Avil, competes with histamine for the H1 receptor, acting as an inverse agonist. This reduces itching, vasodilation, and capillary leakage, leading to less redness and edema. In the CNS, inverse agonism of the H1 receptor is responsible for sedation, a common effect of first-generation antihistamines like pheniramine.
