Hydrocortisone is a steroid that works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies.
Common side effects include stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the application site, typically resolving in a few days as the body adjusts to the medication.
Eczacort is a topical corticosteroid indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses in adults. It is also used for the topical treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in pediatric patients aged 3 months to 18 years.
Topical corticosteroids, such as Eczacort, possess anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. They are believed to act by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins known as lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of inflammation mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid, a common precursor for these mediators, from membrane phospholipids.
Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in patients below 3 months of age have not been established.
Geriatric Use: Safety and efficacy in patients over 65 years of age have not been established.
There are no known drug interactions with Eczacort.
Hydrocortisone Butyrate is contraindicated in patients with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its active ingredients.
