Uses of Feofol-Cl

Key Functions of Components

• Iron: Essential for hemoglobin formation and effective erythropoiesis; serves as a cofactor for several essential enzymes, including cytochromes involved in electron transport. It is crucial for oxygen transport via hemoglobin.
• Folic Acid: Required for nucleoprotein synthesis and the maintenance of normal erythropoiesis; converted in the liver and plasma to its active form, tetrahydrofolic acid, by dihydrofolate reductase. It prevents neural tube defects in women of childbearing potential, with higher doses needed during pregnancy.

Side Effects of Feofol-Cl

• Allergic sensitization has been reported with oral administration of folic acid.
• Oral iron preparations can cause constipation, particularly in older patients, and may occasionally lead to fecal impaction.

Dosage & Administration of Feofol-Cl

• Adults: One capsule daily before food or as directed by a physician.

Follow the physician's advice on medication usage.

Interactions

• Carbonyl iron can decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine.
• Folic acid may interact with antiepileptics, potentially reducing plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any ingredients of the capsule
• Iron therapy is contraindicated in the presence of hemolytic anemia.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use of any drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided if possible.
• Iron administration during the first trimester should be based on definite evidence of iron deficiency.
• Supplementary iron and folic acid are justified during the remainder of pregnancy for prophylaxis of iron deficiency.

Precautions & Warnings

Iron chelates with antacids and tetracyclines, potentially impairing the absorption of all these substances if taken concurrently.
