How does Leptic 2 work?

It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA) which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Pharmacology

Clonazepam enhances GABAergic neurotransmission at inhibitory synapses, thereby increasing GABA’s effect on chloride ion flux at postsynaptic receptors. This leads to the anticonvulsant and sedative effects of the drug. It has also shown effects on serotonin and can suppress various types of paroxysmal EEG activity, making it useful in generalized and focal epilepsies.

Dosage & Administration of Leptic 2

Oral:

  • For seizure disorders in adults, the initial dose is 1.5 mg/day, divided into three doses, and gradually increased as needed. Max daily dose: 20 mg.
  • For panic disorder, the starting dose is 0.25 mg twice daily, increasing to a target of 1 mg/day.
  • Pediatric patients' starting dose ranges from 0.01-0.03 mg/kg/day.
Interaction

Leptic does not alter the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital. Its effect on the metabolism of other drugs remains unstudied.

  • Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.
  • Significant liver disease.
  • Acute narrow-angle glaucoma (it can be used in open-angle glaucoma with appropriate therapy).
