Composition of Catium ES

Each dry powder inhaler capsule contains:

• Indacaterol 110 mcg (as Indacaterol Maleate)
• Glycopyrronium 50 mcg (as Glycopyrronium Bromide)

Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Side Effects of Catium ES

Common side effects include cardiovascular effects (e.g., tachycardia), blurred vision, urinary retention, dry mouth, cough, and hypersensitivity reactions. Serious side effects include paradoxical bronchospasm and worsening of glaucoma or urinary retention.

• This medicine is for inhalation only. The tablet should not be swallowed.
• It should be taken at the same time each day.

• Take the first dose of this medicine under medical supervision as it may cause wheezing or tightening of the airways (bronchospasm) immediately after use.

Indications:

Catium ES (Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium) is used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (a lung disorder in which the flow of air to the lungs is blocked). 

Pharmacology

The inhaler combines Glycopyrronium (an anticholinergic) and Indacaterol (a long-acting beta-agonist, LABA). Indacaterol increases cyclic AMP in the smooth muscle, causing bronchodilation, while Glycopyrronium inhibits M3 receptors, leading to bronchodilation.

Dosage & Administration of Catium ES

• Adults: 1 inhalation once daily at the same time every day.
• Not for acute symptoms, asthma, or pediatric use.

Renal & Hepatic Impairment:

• Mild to moderate impairment: Use as recommended.
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment: Use caution only if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Interaction

Avoid use with β-blockers, other anticholinergics, or sympathomimetics due to potential interactions.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component.
• Severe hypersensitivity to milk proteins.
• Not to be used as monotherapy in asthma.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk. It is classified as pregnancy category C.

Precautions & Warnings

• Do not initiate acutely deteriorating COPD or use it for acute symptoms.
• Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular issues, convulsive disorders, or diabetes.
• Monitor for hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, glaucoma, and urinary retention.
• Symptoms may include tremors, tachycardia, headaches, nausea, and hyperglycemia. Seek medical care in case of an overdose.
