Indications of Doxoven 400
Doxoven 400 is used to treat and prevent asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease symptoms (a lung disorder in which the flow of air to the lung is blocked). It aids in relaxing the muscles of the airways, widening them, and making breathing easier.
Pharmacology
Doxophylline is a relatively new bronchodilator. The presence of a dioxolane group in position 7 distinguishes it structurally from Theophylline. Doxophylline relaxes bronchial smooth muscle by selectively inhibiting phosphodiesterase 4. Doxophylline, on the other hand, appears to have lower adenosine A1 and A2 receptor affinities than Theophylline.
Administration & Dosage
Interaction of Doxoven 400
Do not combine doxophylline with other xanthine derivatives. It has been demonstrated that xanthines have a toxic synergism with ephedrine. As with other xanthines, concomitant therapy with troleandomycin, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, ranitidine, propranolol, and the anti-flu vaccine may reduce xanthine hepatic clearance, resulting in an increase in blood levels.
Contraindications
In acute myocardial infarction, doxophylline is contraindicated. Patients with hypotension, lactating women, and patients who have shown hypersensitivity to its components are also advised against taking it.
Side Effect of Doxoven 400
Doxophylline rarely causes serious side effects, but it can have the same effects as excessive caffeine consumption. Some of the symptoms include nausea, vomiting, headaches, upset stomach, and heartburn.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Animal reproduction studies show that doxophylline has no effect on reproduction capacity or causes fetal harm when given to pregnant animals. However, because there is limited experience with xanthines during pregnancy in humans, they should only be given to pregnant women if absolutely necessary. Doxophylline should not be taken by nursing mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
A number of known variables influence the half-life of xanthine derivatives. Patients with liver disease, congestive heart failure, and those taking certain other drugs such as erythromycin, troleandomycin, lincomycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, propranolol, and the anti-flu vaccine may experience a delay. In these cases, a lower Doxophylline dose may be required.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C, away from light, in a cool, dry place. Keep out of children's reach.
