Noteron 5mg Tablet works by mimicking the effects of natural progesterone (female hormone). It helps in regulating the growth and shedding of the womb lining, thereby treating menstrual irregularities.

• Norethisterone regulates menstrual cycles and treats a wide range of menstrual disorders such as heavy, painful periods and endometriosis.
• It may cause bleeding or spotting in between menstrual periods. Let your doctor know if this occurs frequently.
• Stop taking Norethisterone and inform your doctor immediately if you get severe headaches, stabbing pains or swelling in one leg, pain while breathing, yellowing of your skin, or sudden changes in your vision or hearing.

Pharmacology

Norethisterone is a synthetic oral progestin used primarily for contraception and the treatment of various hormone-related conditions. It mimics the effects of natural progesterone but with greater potency, affecting cervical and endometrial functions and inhibiting pituitary hormones involved in ovulation and follicular maturation. It has been associated with a slightly increased risk of breast cancer in users of combined oral contraceptives and possibly progestin-only pills. Patients should be informed of this risk and encouraged to perform regular breast self-examinations.

Dosage & Administration of Noteron 5mg Tablet

Oral administration. Not intended for use in children.

Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding (Metropathia Hemorrhagic):

• 1 tablet 3 times daily for 10 days.
• Bleeding usually stops within 1-3 days.
• Withdrawal bleeding occurs 2-4 days after stopping treatment.

Prophylaxis Against Recurrence of Dysfunctional Bleeding:

• 1 tablet twice daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the cycle if no signs of normal ovarian function are observed.

Premenstrual Syndrome (including Premenstrual Mastalgia):

• 2-3 tablets daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the cycle.
• Treatment should be repeated for several cycles.

Postponement of Menstruation:

• 1 tablet three times daily, starting 3 days before expected menstruation.
• A normal period should occur 2-3 days after stopping the tablets.

Endometriosis (Pseudo-Pregnancy Therapy):

• Start on the 5th day of the cycle with 2 tablets daily.
• Increase to 4 or 5 tablets if spotting occurs.
• Duration: 4-6 months or longer if necessary.

Menorrhagia (Hypermenorrhoea):

• 1 tablet 2-3 times daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the cycle.

Follow the instructions given by your doctor. Take Norethisterone as advised according to your symptoms and disease severity. Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.

Norethisterone may interact with:

• Cyclosporin
• Estrogens
• Griseofulvin
• Phenytoin
• Rifampicin

Consult your physician for dosage adjustments or alternative medications.

Norethisterone should not be used in:

• Known or suspected pregnancy
• Lactation
• History of herpes gestational
• Cholestatic or idiopathic jaundice
• Dubin-Johnson and Rotor Syndrome
• Unexplained irregular vaginal bleeding
• Hirsutism
• The desire for pregnancy during treatment
• Known or suspected hormone-dependent malignancies

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Category X (contraindicated)
• Excreted in small amounts in breast milk; avoid use during lactation.

  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Liver, kidney, or heart disease
  • Breast or reproductive organ cancer
  • Blood clots
  • Seizures
  • Migraine
  • Asthma
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
• Limit alcohol intake.
• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular or renal impairment, diabetes mellitus, asthma, epilepsy, migraines, or fluid retention.
• High doses should be used cautiously in patients at risk for thromboembolism.
• Avoid in patients with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding or severe hepatic impairment.
