How does Losita 5mg Tablet work?

Losita 5 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improves mood and physical symptoms of depression and also relieves symptoms of anxiety, panic attacks, and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Indication of Losita 5mg Tablet

Pharmacology

Losita contains Escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases the amount of serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.

Dosage & Administration of Losita 5mg Tablet

• Major depressive episodes: Start with 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily based on patient response.
• Panic disorder: Start with 5 mg once daily for the first week, then increase to 10 mg daily. The dose may be further increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily based on response.
• Social anxiety disorder: Start with 10 mg once daily, which may be adjusted between 5 mg and 20 mg based on patient response.
• Generalized anxiety disorder: Start with 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily based on response.
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder: Start with 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily based on response.

Losita should be taken once daily, either in the morning or evening, with or without food.

Seizure Disorders:

• Losita 5mg Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of seizures, as it may increase the risk of triggering seizures.

Impaired Kidney Function:

• If you have kidney problems, use Losita 5mg Tablet cautiously. Close monitoring of kidney functions is necessary to prevent potential worsening of your condition.

Impaired Liver Function:

• Use Losita 5mg Tablet with caution if you have liver problems. The medication is metabolized in the liver, and impaired liver function can lead to its accumulation, causing unwanted side effects. Regular liver function tests are recommended during treatment.

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or Citalopram or any of the inactive ingredients.
• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or pimozide.

Pregnancy & Lactation

When treating a pregnant woman with Escitalopram during the third trimester, the physician should carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of treatment. It is excreted in human breast milk. The decision whether to continue or discontinue either nursing or Escitalopram therapy should take into account the risk of citalopram exposure for the infant and the benefits of Escitalopram treatment for the mother.

• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, poorly controlled seizures, a history of mania, cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus, angle-closure glaucoma, and hepatic or renal impairment.
• Be cautious with concomitant use of drugs that increase bleeding risk.
