Melixol Tablet is a combination of two medicines used in the treatment of depression. It helps by increasing the level of chemical messengers in the brain that relaxes the brain and nerves, thus treating your depression.

✔️ Pharmacology

Melixol Tablet is made up of two active components. Flupenthixol is the more potent of the two active components, acting largely as a neuroleptic. Flupenthixol's antipsychotic effect is mediated by a combination of dopamine D1 and D2 receptor blockage. This accounts for the antipsychotic impact of this medicine on the brain's mesolimbic dopamine system. Flupenthixol also has CNS effects. Dopamine blockage accounts for the drug's antiemetic effect at the chemoreceptor trigger zone. Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant medication. It inhibits the neuronal re-uptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system, reducing depressive symptoms.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Melixol Tablet

For adults, the typical dosage of Melixol Tablet is 2 tablets per day, one in the morning and one at midday. In more severe cases, the morning dosage may be increased to 2 tablets. Elderly patients should take one tablet in the morning, and the maintenance dose is also one tablet in the morning. If the patient experiences insomnia or severe restlessness, additional treatment with a sedative during the acute phase may be necessary.

However, it is important to note that Melixol tablets should not be used for children.

Melixol Tablet has the potential to interact with several medications, including MAO inhibitors, barbiturates, CNS depressants, and neuroleptics. Patients with certain medical conditions, such as circulatory collapse, depressed level of consciousness, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, coma, blood disorders, phaeochromocytoma, recent myocardial infarction, any degree of atrioventricular block or disorders of cardiac rhythm, and coronary artery insufficiency, should not use Melixol Tablet.

This tablet should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to Melitracen or Flupenthixol. It is also contraindicated in cases of CNS depression, such as during acute intoxication with alcohol, barbiturates, or opiates, as well as in cases of coma, pheochromocytoma, and blood dyscrasia. In addition, it is not recommended during the immediate recovery phase following a myocardial infarction, in cases of any degree of the cardiac block, disorders of cardiac conduction, or coronary insufficiency. The concomitant use of MAO inhibitors is also contraindicated.

This tablet should preferably not be given during pregnancy and lactation.

Melixol tablets should not be used if you are allergic to any of their components. It is important to consult with your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is also necessary to inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: circulatory collapse (specific failure of the blood circulation), depressed level of consciousness due to any cause (such as intoxication with alcohol, opiates, or barbiturates), untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, coma, blood disorders, phaeochromocytoma (a small vascular tumor), recent myocardial infarction, any degree of atrioventricular block or disorders of cardiac rhythm, or coronary artery insufficiency.

It is contraindicated to use Melixol Tablet with MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors) as it may result in serotonin syndrome, which can cause symptoms such as confusion, agitation, tremor, hyperthermia, and myoclonus. Therefore, if you are currently taking MAOIs or have taken them within the past 14 days, do not take Melixol Tablet.

Follow your doctor's instructions when taking this medicine. Even if you are feeling better, do not lessen or stop taking your medication on your own. This may worsen your problem.
