Clopirox is an antifungal medicine. It stops protein production in the fungal cells disrupting the cell division process. This is how it prevents the further growth of fungi and helps to treat your skin and nail infections.
Tinea pedis, Tinea cruris, and Tinea corporis are caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum canis, candidiasis (moniliasis) caused by Candida albicans, and Tinea versicolor caused by Malassezia furfur are among the skin infections that are treated with ciclopirox cream. Some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria can be effectively treated with ciclopirox cream. Due to its anti-inflammatory effects, ciclopirox olamine alone is sufficient to treat mild to severe inflammatory fungal infections.
A synthetic broad-spectrum antifungal drug called ciclopirox olamine prevents the growth of Malassezia furfur, yeast, and pathogenic dermatophytes. Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton flocculus, Microsporum canis, and Candida albicans are all susceptible to the bactericidal effects of ciclopirox olamine in vitro. Most research on ciclopirox olamine's mechanism of action has focused on Candida albicans. It is hypothesized that the in vitro cellular depletion of some necessary substrates and/or ions, which results from the blockage of their absorption from the culture medium, is the primary cause of the suppression of the growth or death of fungal cells mediated by ciclopirox. In addition to exerting antibacterial action against numerous gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, ciclopirox has a broad-spectrum antifungal impact. Ciclopirox's ability to reduce inflammation was demonstrated in human polymorphonuclear cells, where it prevented the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. The anti-inflammatory properties of ciclopirox may also manifest by preventing the synthesis of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase.
Ciclopirox cream is contraindicated in people who show hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
