✔️ Side Effects of Econate Plus Cream

• Itching, redness, and mild local discomfort may appear right away after application.
• Econazole has low allergenicity and is generally well-tolerated by sensitive skin.
• Adrenal suppression may occur when using occlusive dressings or long-term continuous topical steroid therapy, particularly in infants and young children.
• A baby's napkin could act as an occlusive dressing.

✔️ How to use Econate Plus Cream

Apply Econate Plus Cream 2-3 times daily to the affected area and gently rub it into the skin with your finger. It is recommended to continue applying the medication for 14 days.

✔️ Indications of Econate Plus Cream

• Econazole Nitrate 1% + Triamcinolone Acetonide 0.1% is used to treat various skin conditions.
• Some of the conditions it treats include insect bites, lichen simplex chronicus, exfoliative dermatitis, stasis dermatitis, nummular eczema, psoriasis, and pruritus ani and vulvae.

✔️ Pharmacology

Econate Plus Cream is a medication which is intended for topical use and is used to treat cutaneous candidiasis, tinea versicolor, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis caused by various fungal species, including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum audouini, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Econate Plus Cream

Adults Dosage:

• No more than twice daily, preferably once in the morning and once in the evening.
• Econate Plus Cream should be sparingly applied to the skin lesion.
• Econate Plus Cream shouldn't be applied to large areas of skin on the body or with an occlusive dressing. After 2 weeks of therapy with this cream, continue therapy as necessary with a preparation containing econazole or econazole nitrate alone.
• The duration of treatment with Econate Plus Cream should last until the inflammatory symptoms subside, but not longer than 4 weeks.

Pediatric Use:

Pediatric patients may be more susceptible to developing HPA axis suppression and Cushing's syndrome when using topical corticosteroids due to their larger skin surface area to body weight ratio than mature patients. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using these medications in pediatric patients.

✔️ Interaction of Econate Plus Cream

• The oral anticoagulant econazole (warfarin & acenocoumarol) is metabolized by the CYP3A4/2C9 enzyme.
• Triamcinolone can decrease salicylate levels in the blood.
• The blood glucose-lowering effects of antidiabetic medications may be obstructed by triamcinolone.
• The risk of hyperkalemia is increased by beta-blockers, amphotericin B, potassium-depleting diuretics, and theophylline.
• The use of ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, and rifampicin can boost triamcinolone clearance.

✔️ Contraindications

• NSAIDs increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration.
• Amphotericin B, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, and theophylline all increase the risk of hyperkalemia.
• Triamcinolone clearance is increased when used with ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, and rifampicin.

✔️ Pregnancy

Triamcinolone Acetonide, a topical corticosteroid, has been found to penetrate the placenta and may cause fetal development problems during pregnancy. It is uncertain to what extent this discovery applies to humans. Therefore, topical steroids should not be used in large doses or for extended periods of time during pregnancy to avoid potential risks to the developing fetus.

✔️ Lactation

Econazole and Triamcinolone may be secreted in breast milk, although in small amounts. Therefore, it is not recommended to use this cream while breastfeeding. If it is necessary to use the cream, lactation should be halted during the course of treatment to avoid exposing the infant to the medications.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• For external use only; not for ophthalmology or oral use.
• Discontinue use if there is a reaction indicating hypersensitivity or chemical irritation.
• Corticosteroids applied to the skin may be absorbed enough to cause systemic effects, including adrenal suppression.
• Several factors, such as application on large skin surfaces, damaged skin, closed skin bandages, and extended treatment time, can increase systemic absorption.
• Topical corticosteroids may cause skin thinning, atrophy, stretch marks, telangiectasia, and purpura.
• Topical corticosteroids may increase the risk of secondary skin infections or opportunistic infections.

Children:  Exercise extreme caution when using this cream on children, as their skin is more susceptible to corticosteroid absorption due to their larger skin surface area to weight ratio.

• Children should only apply the cream sparingly (less than 10% of body surface area) and for short periods (less than two weeks).
• Both systemic and topical corticosteroids may lead to visual impairment, and patients experiencing symptoms such as hazy vision or other visual disturbances should be referred to an ophthalmologist.
• The ophthalmologist can check for glaucoma, cataracts, or rare conditions such as central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), as well as other potential causes.

✔️ Over Dose Effect

Econate Plus cream is meant for external use only. In case of accidental ingestion of a large amount of the product, gastric emptying may be considered a suitable method.

• Keep out of the reach of children.
