Oteseconazole belongs to the azole class of antifungals and targets CYP51, an enzyme crucial for building fungal cell membranes. Blocking this enzyme disrupts fungal growth and survival by accumulating harmful sterol byproducts. Its unique tetrazole structure also makes it less likely to interfere with human enzymes, offering improved safety.
