Terbinafine tablet is indicated for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes and non-dermatophyte fungi.
Terbinafine, an allylamine with antifungal activity, is fungicidal against dermatophytes, molds, and certain dimorphic fungi, and either fungicidal or fungistatic against yeasts. It interferes with fungal ergosterol biosynthesis by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, leading to a deficiency in ergosterol and intracellular accumulation of squalene, resulting in fungal cell death.
In vivo studies show that terbinafine is a CYP450 2D6 isozyme inhibitor. Caution is advised when co-administering with drugs metabolized by this isozyme.
Hypersensitivity to Terbinafine or any excipients in the preparation.
