✔️ Pharmacology:

Upon ingestion, the product rapidly reacts with gastric acid to form a raft of alginic acid gel, which has a near-neutral pH. This raft floats on stomach contents and effectively impedes gastroesophageal reflux for up to 4 hours. In severe cases, the raft may be refluxed into the esophagus, protecting it by exerting a demulcent effect.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

• Children (1-2 years):
• Less than 4.5 kg body weight: 1 sachet, maximum of 6 times daily.
• More than 4.5 kg body weight: 2 sachets, maximum of 6 times daily.
• Bottle-fed infants: Mix each sachet into 115 ml (4 fl oz) of feed in the bottle. Shake well and feed as normal.
• Breast-fed infants and infants up to 2 years: Mix each sachet with 5 ml of cooled boiled water to form a smooth paste. Add another 10 ml of cooled boiled water and mix. Give partway through each feed or meal using a spoon or feeding bottle. For other infants, give at the end of each meal.

✔️ Drug Interactions:

A 2-hour interval should be considered between the intake of Algicid and the administration of other medications, including:

• Tetracyclines
• Digoxin
• Fluoroquinolones
• Iron salts
• Ketoconazole
• Neuroleptics
• Thyroid hormones
• Penicillamine
• Beta-blockers (Atenolol, Metoprolol, Propranolol)
• Glucocorticoids
• Chloroquine
• Biphosphonates
• Estramustine

✔️ Contraindications:

• Known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active substances or excipients, including methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Studies in over 281 pregnant women, and post-marketing data, indicate no malformative or feto/neonatal toxicity. Algicid can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed.
• Breastfeeding: No effects have been shown in breastfed newborns or infants of treated mothers. Algicid can be used during breastfeeding.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

• If symptoms persist beyond 7 days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.
• Each 20 mL dose contains 255.76 mg sodium (11.12 mmol), which is equivalent to 12.79% of the WHO's recommended maximum daily sodium intake. The maximum daily dose is equivalent to 51.15% of the WHO's recommended sodium intake.
• Each 20 mL dose contains 260 mg of calcium (6.5 mmol). Caution is required in patients with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi.
