Indications of Esoprex 20
Pharmacology
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase in the gastric parietal cell, suppressing gastric acid secretion. The first single optical isomer of a proton pump inhibitor, esomeprazole (S-isomer of omeprazole), provides better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors.
Administration & Dosage
Fill a small glass with 15 mL of water with the entire contents of the packet. Stir well in the mixer and set aside for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken. Stir once more, then drink within 30 minutes. If any medicine remains after drinking, dilute it with more water, stir it well, and drink it right away.
Erosive Esophagitis: Take 20 mg or 40 mg once a day for 4 to 8 weeks. Within 4 to 8 weeks, the majority of patients are fully recovered. Patients who do not heal after 4-8 weeks may be given an additional 4-8 weeks of treatment.
Interaction of Esoprex 20
CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 extensively metabolize esomeprazole in the liver. Esomeprazole does not appear to inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2A6, 2C9, 2D6, 2E1, or 3A4 in vitro or in vivo studies. There should be no clinically significant interactions with drugs metabolized by these CYP enzymes.
Contraindications
In patients who have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the formulations, esomeprazole is not recommended.
Side Effect of Esoprex 20
Headache, diarrhoea, nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and dry mouth are the most common side effects reported with Esomeprazole. When compared to short-term treatment, there is no difference in the types of related adverse events seen during maintenance treatment up to 12 months.
Pregnancy & Lactation
In pregnant women, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies. No teratogenic effects have been found in animal studies. Esomeprazole excretion in milk has not been studied. If the use of esomeprazole is considered necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Precautions & Warnings
A symptomatic response to esomeprazole therapy does not rule out the possibility of gastric cancer.
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C, away from light, in a cool, dry place. Keep out of children's reach.
