Opton 20mg Tablet, containing Esomeprazole, is a medication classified as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol while taking Opton 20mg Tablet because it might increase the amount of acid in your stomach than normal which can irritate your stomach lining and worsen your symptoms.

Opton 20mg Tablet works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.
Opton 20mg Tablet is an anti-ulcer medicine. It is used to treat stomach and intestinal conditions like peptic ulcers (sores in the lining of your stomach and intestine), esophagitis (swelling of your food pipe), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (a condition in which the stomach acid flows back into your food pipe), etc. It also relieves stress ulcers (sores in the stomach and intestine that may occur due to illness, infections, etc.) and acidity caused due to the intake of painkillers. It works by stopping the excess production of acid in your stomach.
Esomeprazole, the active ingredient in Opton 20mg Capsule, works by preventing the final step of gastric acid production. It achieves this by binding covalently to the cysteine sulfhydryl group in the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme on the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. This binding inhibits the production of gastric acid.
The inhibitory effect of esomeprazole on gastric acid secretion is not dependent on the specific stimulus. It effectively reduces both basal and stimulated acid secretion. Since the binding of esomeprazole to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme is irreversible, new enzymes need to be synthesized to restore acid secretion. This means that the antisecretory effect of esomeprazole lasts for more than 24 hours.
In summary, esomeprazole acts by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme, resulting in a long-lasting inhibition of gastric acid secretion.

Esomeprazole is contraindicated in patients-
During pregnancy, there is limited information available regarding the safety of esomeprazole (the active ingredient in Opton 20mg Tablet). Here is some information based on available data:
Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women specifically for esomeprazole. However, esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole, and epidemiologic data on omeprazole use during the first trimester of pregnancy have not shown an increased risk of major congenital malformations or other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Animal studies with omeprazole have shown dose-dependent embryo-lethality at doses approximately 3.4 to 34 times higher than the oral human dose of 40 mg (based on body surface area for a 60 kg person). It is important to discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before using Opton 20mg Tablet during pregnancy.
Lactation: Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole, and limited data suggest that omeprazole may be present in human milk. There are no clinical data available on the effects of esomeprazole on breastfed infants or on milk production. It is recommended to consider the developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding along with the mother's clinical need for therapy and any potential adverse effects on the breastfed infant from treatment or from the underlying maternal condition. It is advisable to consult your doctor for personalized advice regarding the use of Opton 20mg Tablet while breastfeeding.
In any case, it is essential to have a discussion with your doctor regarding the potential risks and benefits of using Opton 20mg Tablet during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Your doctor can provide you with the most appropriate guidance based on your specific situation and medical history.
It is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional for comprehensive and personalized information regarding the use of Opton 20mg Tablet in specific medical conditions, including pediatric use, pregnancy, lactation, malignancy, and hepatic impairment.
Store in a dry area at a temperature of not more than 30°C. Light and dampness should be avoided. Keep out of children's reach.
