Bromocriptine belongs to a class of medications known as ergot derivatives and is used to treat Parkinson's disease, a neurological disorder. It is also effective in halting breast milk production following stillbirth, abortion, miscarriage, or if you choose not to breastfeed after delivery. Additionally, Bromocriptine can be used alone or in combination with other medications to treat acromegaly (excessive growth hormone levels), type 2 diabetes mellitus, and Parkinson's disease.
Bromocriptine works by increasing the levels of a brain chemical called dopamine, which in turn reduces the amount of prolactin released. This reduction in prolactin helps treat conditions like acromegaly by decreasing the release of growth hormone. Moreover, it reduces insulin resistance and improves blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes mellitus, while also increasing dopamine levels to manage Parkinson's disease.
As with all medications, Bromocriptine can cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, constipation, and nasal congestion. Most of these side effects are temporary and typically resolve over time without medical intervention. However, if side effects persist, it is important to contact your doctor.
Bromocriptine should not be taken if you have uncontrolled hypertension, known hypersensitivity to dopamine derivatives, or heart disease, as it may exacerbate these conditions. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or have kidney or liver issues. Bromocriptine is not recommended for children under 16 years old. Additionally, consider using non-hormonal contraceptive methods as hormonal conditions may not be stable. Regular blood pressure monitoring is advised while taking Bromocriptine.
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking Bromodel 2.5mg Tablet as it might increase the risk of side effects.
Bromodel 2.5mg Tablet is not recommended for use in women who have a previous history of high blood pressure during their pregnancy (such as eclampsia or pre-eclampsia or pregnancy-induced high blood pressure). Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking Bromodel 2.5.
Bromodel 2.5mg Tablet is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless they wish to stop breastfeeding as it may stop or slow down breast milk production. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if you feel dizzy or faint after taking Bromodel 2.5mg Tablet.
Bromodel 2.5 should be used with caution in patients having kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Bromodel 2.5 should be used with caution in patients having liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.
Bromodel 2.5 corrects hormonal imbalance and brain disorders. It contains a medicine called bromocriptine which is a dopamine agonist and a prolactin inhibitor. It reduces the excess production of a hormone called prolactin in the body that causes galactorrhoea (increased breast milk production), infertility problems, or certain non-cancerous tumors (such as prolactinoma). It treats acromegaly by reducing the growth hormone produced in the body. It also reduces the signs and symptoms of parkinsonism (rigidity, tremor, and muscle stiffness) by replacing the lost dopamine levels in the brain.
Bromocriptine belongs to the group of medicines called Dopamine agonists. It helps to treat hormonal disorders associated with increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in the body. It is used to stop breast milk production among lactating women who wish to stop breastfeeding. It can also be used to treat infertility problems (such as delay in puberty or lack of periods in both men and women) and prolactinomas (non-cancerous tumors of the brain) which are caused due to increased levels of prolactin in the blood.
Bromocriptine is a dopamine receptor agonist that primarily inhibits the secretion of prolactin by activating post-synaptic dopamine receptors. In acromegaly, it lowers elevated blood levels of growth hormone. It significantly reduces plasma levels of prolactin in patients with both physiologically elevated prolactin and hyperprolactinemia.
