Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which the tissue that generally lines the endometrium (inside the uterus) grows outside the uterus. Femogest contains Dienogest, which suppresses the production of a hormone called estradiol, which causes excess growth in the endometrium. Thereby, Femogest 2 mg Tablet helps in treating pelvic pain associated with endometriosis.
Medicines that increase the breakdown of Femogest and may reduce its effectiveness include enzyme-inducing drugs such as phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, carbamazepine, rifampicin, as well as oxcarbazepine, topiramate, felbamate, griseofulvin, nevirapine, and St. John’s wort–containing products.
Drugs that may increase Femogest levels in the blood include enzyme inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole, cimetidine, verapamil, diltiazem, and certain antibiotics, including erythromycin, clarithromycin, and roxithromycin.
Antiviral medicines like ritonavir, saquinavir, indinavir, and nelfinavir, as well as antidepressants such as fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and nefazodone, may also raise plasma concentrations. Grapefruit juice can similarly increase drug levels and should be avoided.
Do not use Femogest 2 mg Tablet if you are allergic to dienogest or any of the tablet’s ingredients.
Femogest is not recommended for patients with current or previous blood clots in the lungs, heart, brain, legs, or other blood vessels. It should also be avoided in individuals with diabetes accompanied by vascular complications, severe liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or the presence of benign or malignant tumors.
Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, obesity, or chloasma (yellowish-brown skin pigmentation). Inform your doctor if you have had an ectopic pregnancy, or if you or close family members have a history of blood clots, heart attack, stroke, or high cholesterol.
Femogest should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant. If pregnancy occurs while taking this medicine, seek medical advice immediately.
This medicine is not suitable for girls who have not yet had their first menstrual period.
Femogest may cause dizziness; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.
