Quick Suggestions:

• Take Losartan with or without food. Do not take more or less than the prescribed dose.
• Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor, as it may worsen your condition.
• Losartan may cause an increase in your blood potassium levels.
• Your doctor may suggest tests to periodically monitor your blood potassium levels while you are taking this medicine.
• Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking Losartan.

Indications:

Losartan is used in the treatment of Hypertension (high blood pressure), Heart failure, and prevention of heart attack and stroke.

Pharmacology

Losartan Potassium is the first non-peptide orally active angiotensin II receptor blocker. It binds to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues (e.g. vascular smooth muscle, adrenal gland, kidneys, and the heart) and reduces several important biological actions including vasoconstriction and the release of aldosterone responsible for hypertension.

Dosage & Administration:= of Losartan

Adult Dose

Hypertension:

• Standard Dose: 50 mg once daily.
• If Needed: May increase to 100 mg/day as a single dose or in two divided doses.
• Intravascular Volume Depletion: Start with 25 mg once daily.

Diabetic Nephropathy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus:

• Initial Dose: 50 mg once daily.
• If Needed: May increase to 100 mg once daily depending on blood pressure response.

Heart Failure, Hypertension, and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy:

• Initial Dose: 50 mg once daily.
• Additional Treatment: Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg daily can be added.
• If Needed: Increase LOSARTAN dose to 100 mg once daily and/or hydrochlorothiazide to 25 mg once daily based on blood pressure response.

Child Dose

Hypertension (Children < 6 Years):

• Safety and Efficacy: Not established.

Hypertension (Children ≥ 6 Years):

• 20-50 kg: Initially, 0.7 mg/kg. Maximum: 50 mg/day.
• >50 kg: Initially, 1.4 mg/kg. Maximum: 100 mg/day.

Renal Dose

1. Renal Impairment:
   • Creatinine Clearance (CrCl) < 20 ml/min: Initially, 25 mg once daily.

Swallow Losartan tablets with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration based on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Losartan may interact with the following medications:

• Pain Killers: ibuprofen, aspirin
• High Blood Pressure Medications: lisinopril, enalapril, ramipril, benazepril, captopril, fosinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, trandolapril, enalaprilat, aliskiren
• Diuretics (Water Pills): amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene
• Blood Thinners: heparin
• Muscle Relaxants: tizanidine
• Antibiotics: trimethoprim

Contraindications

Allergic to the Losartan or any other ARAs

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Angilock 25 is not recommended for pregnant women, especially during the second and third trimesters, as it may cause serious harm to the unborn baby (fetus).
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking Angilock 25.

Precautions & Warnings

• If you have diabetes, kidney, or liver problems, inform your doctor before taking Angilock 25.
• Do not consume alcohol with Angilock 25, as it may increase the risk of low blood pressure.
• Avoid taking potassium supplements or potassium-rich foods with Angilock 25, as this may lead to high potassium levels in the blood.
