Indications
Indapamide is prescribed to treat essential hypertension. It is helpful in treating hypertension in people with impaired renal function, however its diuretic impact is diminished. Indapamide is also used to treat salt and fluid retention caused by congestive heart failure.
Pharmacology
Indapamide is an antihypertensive diuretic. It appears to produce vasodilation by blocking the flow of calcium and other ions (such as sodium and potassium) through membranes. It has an extrarenal antihypertensive effect that reduces vascular hyperreactivity as well as total peripheral and arteriolar resistance.
Dosage & Administration
One tablet daily preferably in the morning. In more sever case Indapamide can be combine with other categories of anti-hypertensive agent. The safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Interaction
Other antihypertensive: Indapamide may supplement or enhance the effect of other antihypertensive medications.
Indapamide, like thiazides, may reduce arterial reactivity to norepinephrine.
Diuretics should not be administered concurrently with lithium because they decrease renal clearance and increase the risk of lithium toxicity.
Contraindications
This medication should not be used if any of the following conditions exist:
Sulfonamide hypersensitivity
Renal failure that is severe
Hepatic encephalopathy, often known as severe hepatic failure
Hypokalaemia
Side Effects
Indapamide side effects include headache, anorexia, stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, and others.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Indapamide is not advised since there are no sufficient and well-controlled trials in pregnant women. Breastfeeding should be avoided by mothers who are taking Indapamide.
Precautions & Warnings
Serum potassium and uric acid levels should be monitored, especially in people with a tendency or susceptibility to hypokalemia and in gout patients. Despite the fact that no adverse symptoms were recorded during clinical trials, patients with a history of sulfonamide derivative sensitivity should be cautiously watched.
