Metronidazole is an antiprotozoal medication that belongs to the imidazole class of antibacterial drugs. Metronidazole's 5 nitro group is reduced by anaerobic bacteria metabolism. According to research, the reduced form of this drug interacts with DNA and produces metronidazole's bactericidal effect.
