Cefuroxime is a bactericidal second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that kills a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many types that produce beta-lactamase. Cefuroxime inhibits bacterial cell wall formation by interfering with the transpeptidation process.
Clavulanic acid, a naturally derived beta-lactamase inhibitor, is produced by Streptomyces Clavuligerus. It has a similar structure to beta-lactam antibiotics and binds to beta-lactamase enzymes, inactivating them irreversibly. Clavulanic acid protects Cefuroxime against degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes, making it an effective treatment choice for bacterial infections.
