✔️ Pharmacology

Itraconazole is an orally administered triazole antifungal medication with a broad spectrum of action and a favorable pharmacokinetic profile. Itraconazole inhibits Cytochrome P-450-dependent enzymes, impairing the formation of ergosterol, a significant component of yeast and fungal cell membranes. Because ergosterol is essential for the proper functioning of the cell membrane, inhibiting its synthesis causes a cascade of abnormalities in permeability, membrane-bound enzyme activity, and chitin synthesis coordination, resulting in growth inhibition, abnormal cell wall formation, and the accumulation of intracellular lipids and membranous vesicles.
