Leflox is used in the treatment of mild to severe infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Respiratory infections
Urinary tract infections
Skin & soft tissue infections (abscesses, cellulitis, furuncles, impetigo, pyoderma, wound infections)
Enteric infections (Enterobacter, E. coli, Campylobacter, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella, Salmonella)
Adults
Acute sinusitis: 500 mg once daily for 10–14 days OR 750 mg once daily for 5 days
Chronic bronchitis exacerbation:
Uncomplicated: 500 mg once daily for 7 days OR 750 mg once daily for 3 days
Complicated: 750 mg once daily for 5 days
Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days OR 750 mg once daily for 5 days
Uncomplicated UTI: 250 mg once daily for 3 days
Complicated UTI & acute pyelonephritis: 250 mg once daily for 7–10 days
Uncomplicated skin infections: 500 mg once daily for 7–10 days
Complicated skin infections: 750 mg once daily for 7–14 days
Enteric fever: 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days
Diarrhea, cholera, shigellosis, enteritis:
Mild–moderate: single 500 mg dose
Moderate–severe: 500 mg once daily for 3 days
Pediatrics
6 months to <5 years: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours
5 years: 10 mg/kg every 24 hours
Routes
Tablets/Oral solution: May be taken with or without food (solution best 1 hr before or 2 hrs after meals).
Generally well tolerated.
Avoid co-administration with antacids, iron, or adsorbents (reduce absorption).
NSAIDs may increase CNS stimulation risk.
Warfarin may increase bleeding risk.
Do not infuse quinolones with multivalent cation-containing solutions.
Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, or excipients.
Not recommended due to insufficient safety data.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
