✅ Description:

Novaclav is recommended for short-term management of various bacterial infections, including:

  • Upper respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media
  • Lower respiratory tract infections including acute or chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, and bronchopneumonia
  • Genitourinary infections such as urethritis, cystitis, and pyelonephritis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Bone and joint infections, including osteomyelitis
  • Other infections, for example, intra-abdominal sepsis, puerperal sepsis, and septic abortion

Pharmacodynamics

  • Novaclav combines Amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum bactericidal penicillin antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a β-lactamase inhibitor.
  • Amoxicillin is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria but can be destroyed by β-lactamase–producing organisms.
  • Clavulanic Acid blocks these enzymes, protecting Amoxicillin from degradation.
This extends the overall antimicrobial spectrum to include resistant strains.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Both components are absorbed quickly, with peak blood levels reached approximately 1 hour after oral intake.
  • Maximum absorption occurs when taken at the start of a meal.
  • About 70% of each component remains unbound in serum.
  • Doubling the dose results in proportional increases in blood concentrations.
