Povidone-Iodine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic consisting of iodine complexed with povidone, a water-soluble polymer. This combination enhances stability and tolerability while gradually releasing free iodine to prolong antimicrobial action. It is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative), fungi, viruses, protozoa, and even bacterial spores.

Unlike traditional iodine, this formulation is less irritating and does not stain the skin. Its efficacy remains uncompromised in the presence of organic materials like blood, serum, pus, and mucosal secretions, making it suitable for pre- and post-surgical antiseptic use.
