Galvus 50mg generic name is Vildagliptin and it is suitable for adjunctive therapy to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Alkanedione or insulin are used in combination with adequate blood sugar control.
Dosage & Administration of Galvus 50mg
The recommended dose of Vildagliptin is-
50 mg or 100 mg daily for monotherapy.
50 mg twice daily (morning and evening) when used in dual combination with Metformin or a Thiazolidinedione;
50 mg once daily in the morning when used in dual combination with a Sulphonylurea.
Vildagliptin may be taken with or without a meal. No dosage adjustment is required in the elderly, or in patients with mild renal impairment.
Pediatric use: Vildagliptin is not recommended in patients 18 years of age.
Interactions of Galvus 50mg
In pharmacokinetic studies, no interaction with pioglitazone, metformin, glibenclamide, digoxin, warfarin, amlodipine, ramipril, valsartan or simvastatin was observed. Like other oral hypoglycemic agents, the hypoglycemic effect of vildagliptin can be reduced by certain active substances, such as thiazides, corticosteroids, thyroid products and sympathomimetic drugs.
Contraindications of Galvus 50mg
Vidagliptin is contraindicated in the following patients:
*Allergy to active substances or any excipients
*Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment
*Patients with liver impairment: Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) or aspartate aminotransferase (AST) Upper limit of normal (ULN) for patients with> 3 pretreatments.
*Type 1 diabetes patients
Side Effects of Galvus 50mg
Most adverse reactions are mild and short-lived and do not require interruption of treatment. Rare cases of liver dysfunction have been observed. Clinical trials of 2 years or more have shown that there are no additional safety signs or unforeseen risks when using this combination.
Pregnancy
Vildagliptin should not be used during pregnancy. Vildagliptin should not be used during breastfeeding.
Precautions while using Galvus 50mg
Due to limited clinical experience, caution should be exercised in patients 75 years of age or older. Monitoring of LFT is recommended before starting vildagliptin, every three months for the first year, and regularly thereafter. If the transaminase level is elevated, the patient should be monitored by a second liver function evaluation to confirm the findings, and then liver function tests should be performed frequently until the abnormality returns to normal. If AST or ALT persists at 3xULN, vildagliptin treatment should be discontinued. Patients with jaundice or other signs of liver dysfunction should discontinue vildagliptin. After cessation of vildagliptin treatment and LFT normalization, vildagliptin treatment should not be restarted. Due to limited clinical experience, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class III patients with congestive heart failure should be used with caution, and NYHA functional class III patients should not use it.
