Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease, wherein the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its tissues, particularly the joints. This immune response triggers inflammation, resulting in joint pain and damage. The condition can lead to various symptoms, including pain, swelling, stiffness, deformities, and a gradual loss of joint function.
Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis:
Managing rheumatoid arthritis typically involves a multidisciplinary approach, including medications, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and sometimes surgical interventions. Early diagnosis and intervention play a crucial role in mitigating symptoms and preventing long-term joint damage. Individuals experiencing symptoms suggestive of rheumatoid arthritis should seek prompt medical attention for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Osteoarthritis is a joint disease characterized by the breakdown of the protective cartilage covering the ends of the joints. This protective cartilage normally allows smooth movement of the joint surfaces. However, when it deteriorates, the joints lose their cushioning, causing the two ends of the joints to come together. As a result, the joints rub against each other during movement, leading to pain and stiffness.
Symptoms of Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis commonly affects weight-bearing joints such as the knees, hips, and spine, as well as joints in the hands. Risk factors for osteoarthritis include aging, joint injuries, obesity, and genetic factors.
Management of osteoarthritis involves a combination of lifestyle modifications, exercise, medications, and sometimes surgical interventions. While osteoarthritis is a chronic condition, effective management strategies can help alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by this joint disease. If you suspect osteoarthritis or experience joint-related symptoms, consulting a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan is advisable.
It works by blocking the formation of chemical substances which cause pain and swelling.
Nabumetone Tablet is a pain-relieving medicine
It is a non-selective prostaglandin G/H synthase inhibitor, commonly known as cyclooxygenase or COX inhibitor. It acts on both prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 (COX-1) and prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (COX-2). Prostaglandin G/H synthase plays a key role in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin G2 and further to prostaglandin H2. Prostaglandin H2 is a precursor to various prostaglandins that are involved in processes such as fever, pain, swelling, inflammation, and platelet aggregation. Alkanon 750 mg is a prodrug, meaning it is an inactive compound that undergoes hepatic biotransformation to the active component, 6-methoxy-2-naphthylacetic acid (6MNA). The active component, 6MNA, acts as a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis. This inhibition is likely achieved through binding to both COX-2 and COX-1 receptors. The overall effects of Alkanon 750 mg include analgesic (pain relief), antipyretic (fever reduction), and anti-inflammatory effects. These actions contribute to its therapeutic effects in conditions associated with pain, inflammation, and fever.
Adult Dose:
Osteoarthritis: Initially, 1g orally once daily; maintenance dose is 1-2g per day orally in a single daily dose or divided every 12 hours. The maximum dose should not exceed 2g per day.
Rheumatoid Arthritis: Initially, 1g orally once daily; maintenance dose is 1-2g per day orally in a single daily dose or divided every 12 hours. The maximum dose should not exceed 2g per day.
Elderly: A daily dose of 500mg may be adequate in certain elderly patients. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 1g.
Child Dose:
Renal Dose:
These dosage recommendations take into consideration the patient's age, the specific condition being treated (osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis), and renal function. It's essential to follow the prescribed dosage and consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice, especially in the case of renal impairment. Regular monitoring of renal function is advised when using Alkanon 500 in patients with renal impairment.
Inform your doctor if you are taking the following medications along with the prescribed drug:
Antidepressants:
Diuretics:
Anti-Hypertensive:
Corticosteroid:
Anti-Diabetic:
Drug-Food Interactions:
No interactions with food have been found or established.
Drug-Disease Interactions:
Inform your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions:
Pregnancy Category: C
Reproductive Studies (Animal): Reproductive studies conducted in rats and rabbits did not show evidence of developmental abnormalities. However, it's important to note that animal reproduction studies may not always predict human response.
Human Studies: There are no adequate, well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Alkanon 750 mg should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Nursing Mothers: The excretion of the drug in human milk is not known. However, 6MNA (active component) is excreted in the milk of lactating rats. Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in nursing infants from Alkanon 750 mg, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.
Labor and Delivery (Animal Studies): In rat studies with NSAIDs, including Alkanon 750 mg, there was an increased incidence of dystocia (difficult labor), delayed parturition (delivery), and decreased pup survival. The effects of Alkanon 750 mg on labor and delivery in pregnant women are unknown.
