How does Purifen 300mg Tablet work?

Purifen 200 is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause fever, pain, and inflammation (redness and swelling).

Indications:

Purifen 200 is a pain-relieving medicine used for the symptomatic treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, painful menstruation, and other musculoskeletal or dental pain.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

• Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, headache, tinnitus, and ataxia.
• More severe symptoms can include flatulence, hypotension, hypothermia, metabolic acidosis, reduced kidney function, coma, and apnea.

Treatment:

• Symptomatic and supportive care, including activated charcoal administration and induction of vomiting, if necessary.
• Dialysis and hemodialysis are of limited value due to the strong plasma protein binding of Purifen.

Dosage & Administration of Purifen 300mg Tablet

• Adult Dose: 600-900 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. May increase to 1200 mg daily for acute conditions or exacerbations. Maximum dosage: 400 mg per dose and 1200 mg per day.

A. Drug-Drug Interactions: Before taking Purifen 300mg Tablet, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

1. Other NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs):
   • Examples: Ibuprofen, paracetamol, aspirin
2. Blood Thinners:
   • Examples: Warfarin, clopidogrel
3. Lithium:
   • Used for mental illness
4. Methotrexate:
   • Used to treat cancer and rheumatoid arthritis
5. Heart Medications:
   • Examples: Propranolol, atenolol, enalapril, ramipril, valsartan, losartan
6. Diuretics (Fluid Accumulation):
   • Examples: Furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide
7. Corticosteroids:
   • Examples: Methylprednisolone, cortisone, hydrocortisone
8. Antidepressants:

• Food Interaction: Some patients may experience a delayed onset of action if Purifen 300mg Tablet is taken with food. Consult your doctor for advice. However, Purifen 300mg Tablet is preferably taken with food to avoid gastrointestinal side effects.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to aspirin or NSAIDs.
• Active or suspected GI ulcer or history of recurrent GI ulcer.
• GI bleeding or other active bleeding or bleeding disorders.
• Active Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
• Hemorrhagic diathesis and other coagulation disorders, or patients receiving anticoagulant therapy.
• Severe heart failure, renal or hepatic impairment.
• Child <18 years.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Although no teratogenic effects have been observed in animal studies, Purifen should be avoided during pregnancy due to known effects of NSAIDs on the fetal cardiovascular system.
• Dexibuprofen may pass into breast milk in small to negligible amounts. Use with caution while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic pulmonary diseases, allergy-prone individuals, and those with hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency.
• Monitor patients with systemic lupus or other autoimmune diseases closely.
• Avoid in patients with active or suspected hemorrhagic conditions, such as gastro-duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and alcoholism.
• Immediate discontinuation is necessary if allergic reactions occur.
