✔️ Side Effects

Common:

Insomnia, restlessness, sleepiness

Headache, dizziness, blurred vision

Parkinsonism (rigidity, tremors, slow movement)

Weight changes, appetite changes

Anxiety, irritability, depression

Gastrointestinal issues: nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain

Infections (cold, UTI, flu-like symptoms)

Rash, itching

Menstrual disturbances, loss of periods

Fatigue, weakness

Uncommon to Rare:

Convulsions, fainting, nightmares

Eye problems (dry eye, conjunctivitis, glaucoma)

Irregular heartbeat, low/high blood pressure

Shortness of breath, wheezing, nosebleeds

Liver issues (jaundice, hepatitis, pancreatitis)

Breast changes (pain, enlargement, discharge)

Priapism (painful, prolonged erection)

Severe allergic reactions (swelling, rash, anaphylaxis)

Serious (Seek immediate care):

Blood clots (leg swelling, chest pain, breathlessness)

Stroke-like symptoms (sudden weakness, slurred speech)

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (fever, muscle rigidity, confusion)

Tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial/tongue movements)

✔️ Managing Minor Side Effects

• Headache → rest, hydrate, use mild pain relievers.
• Dizziness → rest, avoid driving, avoid alcohol.
• Nausea/Vomiting → take with meals, avoid spicy/oily foods.
• Constipation → increase fiber intake, drink water, exercise.
• Itchy skin → use mild moisturizers, avoid hot baths, apply sunscreen.
• Stomach pain → eat small, frequent meals, apply a warm compress.
• Diarrhea → stay hydrated, avoid self-medication.

✔️ Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to paliperidone or risperidone.
• Not recommended in:
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women
• Children <15 years (schizophrenia)
• Children <18 years (schizoaffective disorder)

✔️ Inform your doctor if you are taking:

• Metoclopramide (anti-nausea)
• Valproate (anti-seizure)
• Psychostimulants (methylphenidate)
• Antiarrhythmics (quinidine, disopyramide)
• Antihypertensives (enalapril, metoprolol)
• Antihistamines (chlorpheniramine)
• Antimalarials (chloroquine, mefloquine)
• Other antipsychotics (chlorpromazine, risperidone, haloperidol)
• Levodopa (for Parkinson’s disease)

✔️ Use with caution in patients with:

• Liver, kidney, or heart disease
• Parkinson’s disease or dementia
• Diabetes mellitus
• History of seizures (fits)

✔️ Storage:
