✅ Description:
Cefixime, a semisynthetic third-generation cephalosporin, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It maintains strong resistance against beta-lactamase degradation, rendering it effective even against some resistant bacterial strains. Bioavailability is approximately 40–50%, regardless of food intake.
3RD Cef is prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): Otitis media and other infections, particularly where resistance to standard antibiotics or treatment failure poses a significant risk.
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Including bronchitis.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) include cystitis, cystourethritis, and pyelonephritis.
It is effective against pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, S. pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., Haemophilus influenzae (both beta-lactamase positive and negative), Moraxella catarrhalis, and Enterobacter spp.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of 3rd Cef Powder For Suspension 50ml
Adults & Children (>10 years or >50 kg): 200–400 mg daily, as a single dose or in two divided doses.
Children (6 months–10 years):
- 6 months–1 year: 3.75 ml/day
- 1–4 years: 5 ml/day
- 5–10 years: 10 ml/day
Typhoid: 5 mg/kg twice daily for 10–14 days
Elderly: Same as adults, with renal function monitoring.
Renal Impairment:
- If creatinine clearance ≥20 ml/min: No dose adjustment needed
- If <20 ml/min: Do not exceed 200 mg/day
- Dialysis patients: Follow dosing as per severely impaired renal function
Not recommended for children under 6 months due to a lack of safety data.
