Emeren 4 works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the brain that may cause nausea and vomiting during anti-cancer treatment (chemotherapy) or after surgery.
Ondansetron blocks serotonin 5-HT3 receptors, preventing nausea and vomiting by inhibiting the vomiting reflex and emesis both centrally and peripherally.
No significant effects on cytochrome P-450 enzymes, but caution with drugs affecting these enzymes.
Hypersensitivity to ondansetron or any components, concomitant use with apomorphine.
Common: Headache, constipation, diarrhea. Less common: Rash, flushing, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities. Rare: Anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, tachycardia.
Category B: No evidence of harm in animal studies, but caution is advised in pregnant and nursing women.
Monitor for hypersensitivity reactions. Not a replacement for nasogastric suction. Use caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Store below 30ºC, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
