Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop is used for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Glaucoma is an eye condition that causes damage to the optic nerve (necessary for optimal vision) as a result of unusually high eye pressure. Ocular hypertension is an increase in ocular pressure caused by inadequate aqueous humor outflow (fluid in the eye that maintains normal pressure by its continuous flow).
Before using Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop, inform your doctor about your medical history and other medications you are currently taking to rule out any potential negative effects.
Limit alcohol as a precautionary measure.
Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before using it. If you become pregnant you must use adequate contraception while using Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop.
Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may get into breast milk. Consult your doctor before using it.
Do not drive or use any machines after using Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop if your sight becomes blurred.
Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop is safe to use in patients with kidney diseases/conditions if prescribed by a doctor.
Avatan 0.004% Eye Drop is safe to use in patients with Liver diseases/conditions if prescribed by a doctor.
Travoprost, a synthetic analog of prostaglandin F2α, reduces intraocular pressure by increasing the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor.
Conjunctival hyperemia (a sign of acute anterior inflammation), decreased visual acuity, eye discomfort, foreign body sensation, pain, and pruritus (itching) may occur in some situations. Most side effects do not require medical treatment and fade away with time. However, if the side effects persist, consult your doctor.
Avatan Eye Drops are indicated for reducing elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are intolerant of or insufficiently responsive to another intraocular pressure-lowering medication, either as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy.
Travoprost, an isopropyl ester prodrug, is a synthetic prostaglandin F2 alpha analog. Upon application, it undergoes rapid hydrolysis by esterases in the cornea to its biologically active free acid form. This free acid form is potent and highly selective for the FP prostanoid receptor.
For adults, administer one drop of Travoprost into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. If using more than one topical ophthalmic product, administer them at least 5 minutes apart. When switching from another antiglaucoma agent to Travoprost, discontinue the previous agent and begin Travoprost the following day.
The efficacy and safety of travoprost eye drops in patients under 18 years old have not been established.
The therapeutic effect may be reduced when used concomitantly with NSAIDs.
Travoprost eye drops are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to travoprost or any excipients in the preparation.
There are no adequate and well-controlled clinical studies in pregnant women. Travoprost should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
It is unknown whether the drug or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering travoprost to lactating women due to the potential for excretion in breast milk.
Avatan should be used cautiously in patients with active intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis). It should not be administered while wearing contact lenses. Contact lenses should be removed before administering the solution and can be reinserted 15 minutes after administration.
Store Avatan in a cool, dry place, protected from light, and keep it out of reach of children. Discard the container 4 weeks after opening.
