Ocular hypertension refers to elevated pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure or IOP) that is higher than normal. This condition is typically caused by a blockage in the eye's drainage ducts or an excess of aqueous humor, the fluid that nourishes the eye.
Glaucoma is an eye condition characterized by damage to the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain. This damage is often caused by increased pressure inside the eye due to a buildup of fluid in the front of the eye. Glaucoma can lead to vision loss if left untreated.
Ocular hypertension is considered a risk factor for developing glaucoma. While not everyone with ocular hypertension will develop glaucoma, it is a significant risk factor for the disease. Therefore, individuals with ocular hypertension require regular monitoring to detect early signs of glaucoma.
Both ocular hypertension and glaucoma may not present with noticeable symptoms in the early stages. However, as the conditions progress, symptoms may include:
Early detection and treatment are crucial for preventing vision loss associated with glaucoma. This may involve regular eye exams to monitor intraocular pressure and optic nerve health. Treatment options for ocular hypertension and glaucoma include eye drops, oral medications, laser therapy, and surgery, depending on the severity and progression of the condition.
Regular eye exams and adherence to treatment plans recommended by eye care professionals are essential for managing ocular hypertension and preventing the progression to glaucoma.
It is advisable not to take or limit alcohol as a precautionary measure.

Avost Eye Drop is safe to use in patients with Liver diseases/conditions if prescribed by a doctor.
Avost Eye Drop is a prostaglandin analog. It works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, thereby lowering the increased eye pressure.
Travoprost, an isopropyl ester prodrug, is a synthetic prostaglandin F2 alpha analog that is rapidly hydrolyzed by esterases in the cornea to its biologically active free acid. The travoporst-free acid is potent and highly selective for the FP prostanoid receptor. Travoprost free acid is a selective FP prostanoid receptor agonist and is believed to reduce intraocular pressure by increasing the drainage of aqueous humor, which is done primarily through increased uveoscleral outflow and to a lesser extent, trabecular outflow facility.
For adults with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma, the typical dose of Avost Eye Drop is to instill one drop of the 0.004% solution into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening.
However, the safety and efficacy of Avost Eye Drop have not been established for children, so its use in pediatric patients should be determined by a healthcare professional.
Before using Avost Eye Drop, inform your doctor if you are using, have used, or might use any other medicine, including prescription, non-prescription, or herbal medicine.
Travoprost eye drops is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitive to travoprost or any excipients of this preparation.
There are no adequate and well-controlled clinical studies on pregnant women. Travoprost should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
It is not known whether the drug or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when travoprost is administered to a lactating woman.
