Indications
Prednisolone eye drops are used to treat inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior region of the globe that is steroid-responsive.
Pharmacology
Prednisolone reduces inflammation by stopping polymorphonuclear leukocytes from migrating and reversing enhanced capillary permeability. It lowers the immune system by lowering lymphocyte and eosinophil activity and generation.
Dosage & Administration
Adult: Instill one drop into the conjunctival sac two to four times daily. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosing frequency may be increased if necessary. Care should be taken not to discontinue the therapy before completing the course.
Pediatric: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Contraindications
Prednisolone Acetate is contraindicated in viral corneal and conjunctival infections, as well as known hypersensitivity to any of the preparation's constituents or other corticosteroids.
Side Effects
Increased intraocular pressure (IOP) can lead to glaucoma and optic nerve injury, as well as posterior subcapsular cataract formation and delayed wound healing. Fungal and viral infections of the cornea are more likely to develop as a result of long-term steroid treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Prednisolone Acetate is classified as a pregnancy category C drug. As a result, this medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. It's unclear whether corticosteroids used topically would cause enough systemic absorption to create detectable levels in human milk. Prednisolone Acetate should be provided with caution to a nursing mother because many medications are excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Before using, give the bottle a good shake. Long-term usage of corticosteroids can damage the optic nerve and cause visual problems. Intraocular pressure should be checked on a regular basis if this product is used for an extended period of time.
Storage Conditions
Keep the temperature below 30°C and away from light and moisture. Keep out of children's reach.
