Cromolin 4% Eye/Nasal Drop 10ml

Mechanism of Action

Cromolin works by stabilizing mast cells, preventing them from releasing substances (histamine, leukotrienes) that cause allergic symptoms. This action helps to mitigate sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion.

Side Effects

Common Side Effects:

• Nasal Use: Stinging sensation, nasal irritation, burning sensation, sneezing.
• Ophthalmic Use: Transient burning and stinging in the eyes.

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions, though rare, can occur. Symptoms may include rash, itching/swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

• Avoid deep breathing while using the nasal spray to prevent the medication from going to the throat.
• Do not share the nasal spray bottle with others to prevent the spread of germs.
• Seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve within the recommended time frame.

Dosage & Administration

Nasal Use:

• Adults: Insert the bottle tip into one nostril, close the other nostril, and direct the spray towards the sides of your nostril. Breathe gently while keeping the head upright. Repeat for the other nostril. The usual dose is 1 spray in each nostril 2 to 3 times daily or as prescribed by the doctor.

Ophthalmic Use:

• Allergic Conjunctivitis in Adults: Instill 2 drops of a 4% solution in each eye 4-6 times daily.

General Guidelines:

• Use the medicine at the same time every day for the best results.
• Continue using it for the duration prescribed, even if symptoms improve.
• Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve within a week (for nasal use) or 3 weeks (for ophthalmic use).

How to Use Cromolin

Nasal Spray:

1. Preparation: Shake the bottle well before each use.
2. Administration:
   • Insert the bottle tip into one nostril.
   • Close the other nostril.
   • Direct the spray towards the side of your nostril, away from the cartilage dividing the two sides of your nose.
   • Breathe gently and keep your head upright while spraying.
   • Repeat the same process for the other nostril.

Ophthalmic Drops:

1. Preparation: Wash your hands before use.
2. Administration:
   • Tilt your head back slightly.
   • Pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
   • Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out the prescribed number of drops.
   • Close your eye for 1-2 minutes to allow the drops to be absorbed.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Sodium Cromoglycate or any other ingredients in the formulation.

Precautions

• Allergy: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to Sodium Cromoglycate or any other components of the medication.
• Contact Lenses: For ophthalmic use, do not wear contact lenses during treatment as the drop contains benzalkonium chloride, which can be absorbed by soft contact lenses.
• Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using Cromolin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
