Indications
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo is used to treat and prevent diseases caused by the yeast Malassezia (previously known as Pityrosporum), including pityriasis Versicolor (localized), seborrheic dermatitis, and pityriasis capitis (dandruff).
Pharmacology
Ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo is a synthetic antifungal drug with a broad spectrum imidazole-dioxolane structure that inhibits the in vitro development of the following common dermatophytes and yeasts by changing cell membrane permeability: Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, M. Baudouin, M. gypseum, and Epiderm (Pityrosporum orbiculare).
