Edysta 2.5mg Tablet is prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, a condition in which a man experiences difficulty in achieving and maintaining an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Additionally, it is used to alleviate urinary symptoms resulting from the enlargement of the prostate gland, a condition that commonly affects older men.
Tadalafil, the active ingredient in Edysta 2.5, is a specific inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Inhibition of PDE5 increases cGMP levels in smooth muscle cells, leading to penile erection. Cyclic GMP also relaxes smooth muscles and enhances blood flow to the corpus cavernosum.
Certain medications can interact with Edysta 2.5, including nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide), alpha-blockers, antihypertensive drugs, alcohol, antacids (magnesium hydroxide/aluminum hydroxide), ketoconazole, ritonavir, erythromycin, itraconazole, grapefruit juice, other HIV protease inhibitors, rifampin, and carbamazepine.
There are no specific recommendations for use during pregnancy or lactation.
Exercise caution in conditions such as angina, renal impairment, hepatic impairment, bleeding concomitant with nitrates, alpha-blockers, alcohol, CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole), and other PDE5 inhibitors.
