Carica Papaya Leaf Extract
Carica papaya, from the Caricaceae family, is an important fruit crop globally. Various parts of the papaya plant, including fruits, seeds, leaves, rind, shoots, roots, and latex, have been studied for their benefits. The leaf is considered non-toxic, with a lethal dose greater than 15 g/kg body weight.
Preclinical studies in mice showed Carica papaya powder effectively increases platelet count. In vitro studies demonstrated that Carica papaya leaf extract significantly inhibits hemolysis due to its membrane-stabilizing properties.
Caripa has been found to increase the bioavailability of amiodarone, necessitating dose adjustment when co-administered. In vitro studies show that Carica papaya extracts enhance the action of various antibiotics, such as penicillin G, ampicillin, amoxyclav, cephalothin, polymyxin B, rifampicin, amikacin, nalidixic acid, gentamycin, chloramphenicol, and ofloxacin, exhibiting synergistic properties against pathogenic organisms.
No known health hazards or side effects are associated with the proper administration of therapeutic dosages.
Caripa is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Use with caution in individuals with bleeding disorders or those taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin or warfarin. Co-administration with oral hypoglycemics may lead to hypoglycemia; therefore, regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
