Indications
This supplement is used to treat and prevent iron, folic acid, and zinc insufficiency, particularly during pregnancy and lactation.
Pharmacology
Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate are combined in this timed-release capsule. It contains Carbonyl Iron with a minimum iron content of 98 percent. Carbonyl Iron is a safer and more effective iron supplement because of its high bioavailability and low toxicity.
Dosage & Administration
Contraindications
Do not use in patients hypersensitive to the components of the product or those with iron overload.
Side Effects
Dark stools, nausea, and other gastrointestinal irritation symptoms like anorexia, vomiting, discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea are frequent during iron therapy. Stomach issues can also be brought on by zinc. These timed-release capsules are designed to reduce the possibility of abdominal discomfort. Rarely have allergic reactions been reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Any medicine should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy if at all possible. Thus, iron supplementation during the first trimester is only acceptable if there is definite evidence of Iron deficiency and an inadequate diet necessitates supplemental Zinc and Folic acid during the remainder of the pregnancy.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red cell aplasia who are at risk for iron overload should be monitored closely. Failure to respond to treatment may indicate the presence of additional causes of anemia, which should be examined further. Absorption of all three drugs may be hampered when iron and zinc chelate is used with tetracycline. In the presence of iron, zinc absorption may be diminished. Iron absorption can be hampered by penicillamine and antacids. By spacing the administration of each product by several hours, such potential interactions can be avoided. Zinc buildup is a possibility in patients with renal failure.
Storage Conditions
Protected from light and moisture, store below 30˚C. Keep out of reach of children.
